Bayworks turns mechanic chatter into warranty claims
Bayworks just launched an app that lets dealership technicians dictate their repairs out loud and automatically format reports for automaker warranty claims. The app prompts mechanics if required measurements are missing, creating an audio audit trail for every fix. The YC-backed startup has scaled to 80+ dealerships and 4,000 daily repairs in 110 days.
Fixing cars is messy work, but for dealership technicians, the real headache often starts after the wrenching is done—when they have to peel off greasy gloves to type up warranty claims for automakers.
YC-backed Bayworks wants to handle that paperwork with voice. Its new mobile app lets mechanics dictate what they fixed out loud, automatically generating a report formatted to meet strict carmaker warranty requirements.
Closing the data loop on repairs
To prevent claims from getting rejected, the app actively monitors what is said. If a technician forgets a required measurement or specific diagnostic detail, it prompts them before the report is submitted.
Dealerships also get a permanent audio record of every repair job. As Bayworks points out, autonomous vehicle companies log every mile driven, but almost nobody systematically records how cars are repaired. In just 110 days, the startup has expanded to over 80 dealerships, processing roughly 4,000 repairs a day.
Why it matters
Bayworks found an unglamorous, highly lucrative workflow where general-purpose AI models struggle without domain context. Automaker warranty filings are notoriously tedious and strict, making human administrative errors expensive for dealerships.
By turning a hands-busy task into voice input and adding missing-detail prompts, it delivers immediate ROI to mechanics on the shop floor.
In the long run, we think the real value lies in the data pipeline. Collecting structured audio records of daily automotive repairs creates a unique dataset on vehicle reliability and common failure modes that automakers and fleet operators would pay handsomely to see.
