Anthropic signs White House health tech pledge
Anthropic just signed the CMS Health Tech Ecosystem pledge to help modernize healthcare data sharing across the United States. The company plans to use its Model Context Protocol to bridge fragmented record systems so patients and doctors can easily access information. Why it matters: Healthcare silos are notoriously difficult to break, and Anthropic is betting conversational AI can solve the interoperability bottleneck.

If you have ever tried transferring your medical records between different hospital networks, you know how painful the healthcare silo problem really is. Decades of incompatible software have left patient data scattered across completely separate walls.
Anthropic just decided to tackle that headache with its own open protocol.
The company signed the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Health Tech Ecosystem pledge to support conversational AI, joining a public-private push alongside the White House and CMS to modernize data sharing across the healthcare system.
Using MCP as a universal adapter
According to Anthropic Chief Product Officer Mike Krieger, healthcare silos have persisted for far too long, and AI can play a transformative role in eliminating them for millions of patients.
Instead of trying to replace existing hospital databases, Anthropic is pitching its Model Context Protocol as the glue to bridge them. The company points out that the healthcare interoperability crisis looks almost identical to the data connectivity challenges already solved inside modern AI systems.
Under this framework, and strictly with patient consent, conversational assistants powered by Claude could securely pull together information from CMS Aligned Networks and personal health records. The idea is to translate complex charts into plain English and guide patients toward the right care when issues pop up.
To make it happen, Anthropic plans to team up with insurance payers, care providers, data platforms, and consumer tech brands to aggregate both clinical and everyday lifestyle health data.
Why it matters
We think Anthropic is playing a very smart hand here by avoiding the trap of building another walled-garden electronic health record system. By positioning itself as an intelligent integration layer through MCP, Claude can act as the connective tissue between incompatible platforms that doctors and patients already hate using.
For regular people, this could turn scattered lab results from three different clinics into a single understandable timeline without having to print out stacks of paper or log into half a dozen portals.
For the AI landscape, this shows Anthropic pushing Claude deep into regulated federal spaces. If MCP catches on across CMS networks, legacy healthcare software vendors who have long profited from closed ecosystems will face immense pressure to open up standardized APIs.
That said, high stakes bring massive risks. Medical records demand absolute privacy, and consent checkboxes do not automatically solve HIPAA concerns. If a conversational model hallucinates advice or misreads a lab metric, figuring out whether Anthropic or the data provider takes the blame will be a legal minefield.
