Anthropic drops a $200 Claude Max plan
Anthropic just rolled out Claude Max, a new subscription tier running between $100 and $200 per month designed to cure users' rate-limit headaches. The $100 tier grants 5x the usage of Claude Pro, while the $200 tier jumps to a massive 20x. It is specifically aimed at power users who quickly eat through context windows with massive codebases and long documents.

If you use Claude for deep work like coding or parsing dense documents, you have almost certainly slammed into its rate limits right when you were in the zone.
On Wednesday, Anthropic rolled out Claude Max, a new subscription tier priced between $100 and $200 per month designed specifically to give power users far more breathing room.
According to Anthropic, expanded access was the single most requested feature from its most active user base. A quick glance at Reddit over the past year backs that up, with countless subscribers venting about hitting usage caps even while paying for the $20 monthly Pro plan.
The context window tax
The root of the problem comes down to how Claude handles its massive context window.
Claude is great at juggling entire codebases and massive PDF files within a single thread. However, every time you send a new prompt, the model has to swallow the entire conversation history, including all those attached reference documents, and evaluate it all over again.
As your session grows longer and your attachments pile up, each follow-up question burns through your allotment at an exponential rate. That is why heavy users hit their limits so shockingly fast.
Five times or twenty times
To tackle this, Anthropic is splitting Claude Max into two distinct tiers.
The $100 per month option delivers 5 times more usage than the standard $20 Pro plan.
For those who basically live inside Claude, there is a $200 per month option that offers 20 times the usage of Pro. Anthropic dubs this top tier Maximum Flexibility, explicitly targeting people who collaborate with Claude on most tasks throughout the day.
Why it matters
For freelance developers, researchers, and engineers who rely on Claude as a daily pair programmer, this plan is worth every penny. Managing multiple browser accounts or stringing together custom API setups was a messy workaround; paying $200 a month to just keep working without interruptions is an easy business expense if it saves billable hours. For casual writers and students, the standard $20 Pro plan remains more than enough.
Across the AI landscape, we are watching the death of the one-size-fits-all $20 subscription. High-intensity AI workflows eat astonishing amounts of compute, and frontier labs are carving out premium $100 to $200 enterprise-grade tiers to capture the willingness to pay from top professionals.
Anthropic's move looks smart on paper because it uses a clean multiplier model rather than forcing individual users into confusing per-token API billing. The underlying catch, however, is that the technical bottleneck remains. Because the full context still re-processes on every turn, power users running massive, code-heavy sessions might find that even 20 times the usage disappears faster than expected during marathon workdays.
