Claude for Financial Advisors connects directly to Schwab and BlackRock

Published Reach 39

Anthropic just launched Claude for Financial Advisors, plugging straight into custodians like Charles Schwab and BlackRock to automate tedious desk work. Built-in skills draft recap notes, review portfolio drift, and screen text against SEC rules, freeing up hours while leaving human advisors in full control of every recommendation.

If you ask a wealth manager how they spent their day, don't expect stories about macro asset allocation. Expect stories about wrestling with five different legacy enterprise portals just to prep for one 45-minute phone call.

According to research from Kitces, the average financial advisory practice spends barely a sixth of its working hours actually sitting across from clients. The other five-sixths disappear into the paperwork vacuum: reconciling portfolio statements across platforms, manually logging CRM notes, and hunting down missing trust paperwork. Meanwhile, EBRI's 2026 Retirement Confidence Survey found that over 40% of American workers don't know where to turn for legitimate retirement or planning advice. Advisors are drowning in admin, while clients are left waiting.

Anthropic wants Claude to take that paperwork hit. On September 14, the company officially launched Claude for Financial Advisors, rolling out a specialized bundle of pre-built connectors and workflow skills aimed squarely at independent advisors and wealth firms.

Unifying the broken wealth stack

Rather than launching another standalone copilot that sits in its own silo, Anthropic went straight after the ecosystem where advisor data actually lives.

The new suite plugs Claude directly into the industry's heaviest hitters. Connectors cover custodians like Charles Schwab; asset management and model portfolio hubs like BlackRock and Vanguard; portfolio reporting systems like Addepar, Envestnet, SS&C Black Diamond, and Orion; wealth platforms like iCapital and Wealth.com; and advisor-focused CRMs and note-takers like Wealthbox and Zocks. That lineup joins existing integrations with Microsoft 365, Salesforce, FactSet, and Morningstar.

Through a single plugin install, advisors can connect their preferred platforms and trigger skills mapped to the exact cadence of their week.

Before a client call, the pre-meeting prep skill aggregates positions from Schwab, alternative commitments from iCapital, and notes from past meetings into a single briefing document. After the call, Zocks conversation transcripts are automatically converted into CRM tasks, recap emails, and next steps in a single pass. For portfolio drift, the rebalance review skill highlights concentrated assets against target allocations and drafts the initial client explanation. Crucially, Anthropic also baked in a compliance skill that screens draft text against the SEC Marketing Rule and documents the firm's AI review workflows.

Every regulated action, client-facing message, and portfolio decision still requires explicit human sign-off before leaving the desk.

Why it matters

We think this release represents the gold standard for how frontier AI labs should approach heavily regulated white-collar industries.

Instead of making grand promises about replacing human financial planners, Anthropic built a hyper-practical back-office engine that respects regulatory boundaries. In a profession governed by fiduciary duty and SEC oversight, advisors cannot hand the steering wheel to an autonomous agent. Keeping the advisor in the loop for every single approval while offloading cross-system data stitching is exactly what makes institutional adoption viable here.

For advisory practices, this is worth testing immediately if your tech stack aligns with their partners. Wealth management is fundamentally a scale game tied to assets under management and household capacity. If Claude can reclaim two or three hours of manual administrative work each day, a sole practitioner or small RIA can take on significantly more families without having to double administrative headcount.

The competitive implication for OpenAI and Microsoft is clear: generic chat assistants lose out to deep, pre-cleared institutional plumbing. By locking down integrations with BlackRock Advisor Center, Schwab, and Addepar, Anthropic is building deep moats in vertical enterprise workflows where compliance and security matter far more than synthetic benchmark scores.
