Claude lands inside Slack with two-way workspace integration
Anthropic just rolled out a deep two-way integration with Slack. You can now summon @Claude directly in channels, DMs, and threads to draft replies and analyze files, or link your workspace so Claude can search message history for context. Public thread replies stay private until you approve them.
Hunting down project context in Slack is usually the worst part of any workday. You know a decision was made last Thursday, but finding the exact thread across dozens of channels feels impossible.
Anthropic wants to fix that. The company rolled out a deep, two-way integration between Claude and Slack, letting you bring the model directly into your team chats while also letting Claude read your workspace history.
Claude in Slack is available through the Slack Marketplace for teams on paid Slack plans. The Slack connector, which allows the Claude app to search your conversations, initially landed for Team and Enterprise users and expanded to Claude Pro and Max subscribers on January 26, 2026.
Claude moves into your Slack channels
There are two distinct parts to this rollout, starting with Claude showing up inside Slack itself.
You can use it in three ways. First is a direct private message for 1-on-1 writing, research, or document analysis. Second is through the AI assistant panel in Slack's header, letting you ask questions without disrupting whatever conversation you are looking at.
The third is where things get interesting: you can mention Claude directly inside a public thread.
Anthropic made a thoughtful design choice here. Instead of having Claude blast an instant reply to the entire channel, it generates a private draft that only you can see. You can review the draft, edit it, regenerate it, or decide not to send it at all before sharing it with your team.
Even inside Slack, Claude keeps its core toolset intact, including web search, file analysis, and your existing external integrations.
Letting Claude dig through your work chats
The second half of the integration works in reverse, connecting your Slack workspace to the Claude apps.
Once connected, Claude can search across public channels, private groups you belong to, direct messages, and shared files. It acts as an organizational memory engine.
You can ask Claude to prepare a meeting briefing by pulling recent updates and decisions buried across multiple channels. It can track down project blockers, summarize sprint progress, or build onboarding documentation for new hires by scanning historical discussions and linked attachments.
On the security side, Anthropic insists existing Slack permissions remain untouched. Claude can only read channels and conversations you already have permission to access, and everything honors your organization's data retention policies. Admins also must approve the app before anyone can link their account.
Why it matters
We think this move represents a critical shift from AI as an isolated browser tab to AI embedded in the daily flow of work.
Until now, using Claude for work meant constantly copy-pasting messy chat threads into a browser window. Closing that loop turns months of fragmented, unstructured workplace chatter into a searchable knowledge base.
The private drafting feature is particularly sharp. The biggest barrier to using AI agents in team channels has always been social friction: nobody wants an over-eager bot hallucinating in front of senior leadership. Giving the user the final gatekeeping role makes people far more likely to actually tag the model.
The catch, however, will be signal versus noise. Slack channels are filled with sarcasm, discarded ideas, and half-baked thoughts. If Claude struggles to distinguish an informal brainstorm from a finalized strategy, its meeting prep documents could easily lead teams astray.
If your organization runs on a paid Slack plan and you already subscribe to Claude Pro, Max, or an enterprise tier, this is well worth turning on right now.
