Anthropic extends Claude Fable 5 access

Published Reach 54

Anthropic just gave paid subscribers more time with Claude Fable 5, extending access through July 12. The company shared the update on X without explaining the delay or what happens after the new cutoff date. If you're on any Claude paid plan, you now have a few extra days to test it out.

Top-tier frontier models are expensive to run, so free trials are usually cut short. Anthropic, however, just gave its power users a little breathing room.

Anthropic announced on X that it is extending promotional access to Claude Fable 5 for all paid plan subscribers through July 12. The promotional window originally opened on July 1 and was slated to wrap up on July 7, giving subscribers five extra bonus days.

The limits and how to get in

The extension applies to Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise subscribers at no additional charge.

Under this promo, users can spend up to 50 percent of their total weekly usage limit running Claude Fable 5. There is nothing to claim or manually switch on in your account settings.

You can access it across web, mobile, and desktop by picking Fable 5 from the model picker. If you use Claude Code, you will need version 2.1.170 or later. For Claude Cowork, you must run the latest version of Claude Desktop.

There are a few catches. Anthropic noted that Fable 5 draws from your regular weekly limit and burns through it faster than other Claude models. In addition, standard seats on seat-based Enterprise tiers, usage-based enterprise accounts, and standard Claude API calls are excluded from the promotion.

What happens after July 12

Once the cutoff hits on July 12, Fable 5 will drop out of the bundled weekly subscription limit entirely.

Subscribers who want to stick with Fable 5 will have to purchase prepaid usage credits. The pricing is set at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. Otherwise, you will need to fall back to other Claude models to finish out your weekly quota.

Anthropic did not share what prompted the five-day extension or whether any pricing tweaks are planned down the road.

Why it matters

If you have complex coding tasks or heavy-duty analytical workflows sitting on your desk, this week is the time to run them.

At $50 per million output tokens, Fable 5 is clearly priced out of casual day-to-day chat. It is built as a specialized heavyweight tool, and running real production experiments on it once usage credits kick in is going to add up fast.

Anthropic extending the deadline by five days looks like a classic land-and-expand move. Giving subscribers just enough extra runway lets users weave Fable 5 deeper into their daily habits before dropping the paywall. It also gives Anthropic valuable high-concurrency telemetry on its flagship infrastructure.

The friction point is the token burn rate. While getting 50 percent of your weekly allowance sounds generous, the fact that Fable 5 chews through credits much faster means hitting a rate limit mid-task is a real risk. Anthropic is proving how capable its new flagship is, but the real test begins on July 13 when users have to decide if the output justifies the bill.
