Anthropic opens Claude plugin portal to developers
Anthropic just launched a plugin submission portal that lets paid Claude developers publish third-party extensions directly to the Claude directory. Creators can submit standalone MCP connectors or full GitHub-hosted skill bundles, complete with automated safety checks, review tracking, and post-launch analytics. It basically turns Claude and Claude Code into a unified ecosystem for agentic tools.

Connecting an AI model to real-world workflows used to feel like duct-taping APIs together. Anthropic is finally giving that process an official front door.
Anthropic launched a dedicated directory submission portal for Claude plugins. The new platform lets developers on paid Claude plans submit third-party extensions, track their approval status in real time, and monitor analytics after launch.
Two ways to build, plus interactive UIs
Under the hood, these plugins package Model Context Protocol connectors, Agent Skills, or a blend of both. Developers have two distinct ways to get their tools listed.
The first is a lightweight path: simply point Anthropic to a single remote MCP server.
The second option is a complete plugin bundle. Developers can package MCP servers and skills together, host them on GitHub, and submit the repository. For Claude Code, plugins can go even deeper by bundling language server protocols, custom commands, hooks, and autonomous agents.
Once submitted, the portal runs automated validation and safety checks to catch vulnerabilities early. Developers can track feedback directly on their dashboard and choose exactly when to hit publish once approved.
To power these tools, Claude now supports the MCP 2.0 specification with a stateless core.
This update unlocks two major extensions: MCP Apps, which lets plugins render interactive UI elements directly inside the chat interface, and Enterprise Managed Auth for zero-touch OAuth integration. Once live, creators get access to a full analytics suite detailing installs across product surfaces and the exact search queries driving discovery.
Why it matters
We think this is Anthropic's most decisive move yet toward turning Claude into an expansive operating ecosystem rather than just a standalone chatbot.
For developers, the directory solves the painful distribution problem. Building an MCP tool previously meant hoping users knew how to configure JSON files from GitHub. Now, creators get built-in discovery, user analytics, and a frictionless install funnel to reach millions of active Claude users.
The addition of in-chat interactive UIs through MCP Apps is especially clever. It bridges the gap between text-based tool execution and full-featured software, giving third-party apps a native feel inside the conversation.
Looking at the broader market, OpenAI's GPT Store struggled to maintain momentum partly because custom GPTs often felt like thin prompt wrappers. Anthropic's approach relies heavily on code-level MCP integrations, which provides much higher functional utility.
However, locking the submission portal behind paid tiers could slow down grassroots open-source adoption. As more third-party agents plug directly into Claude Code and desktop environments, Anthropic will also face intense scrutiny over security review standards and data privacy isolation.
