Anchor founders return with Oboe to turn any prompt into a custom course

Published Reach 37

The co-founders behind Anchor just launched Oboe, an AI-powered platform that builds personalized learning courses in seconds from a single prompt. Powered by an internal multi-agent pipeline, it generates material across nine formats, including two-host podcasts, lecture audio, and interactive quizzes. Users get five free course creations monthly, with paid tiers starting at $15.

The co-founders who built podcast giant Anchor and sold it to Spotify are back with a new startup, and they are taking aim at how we learn online.

Nir Zicherman and Michael Mignano just launched Oboe, an AI-powered education platform that turns any simple prompt into a flexible, bite-sized course in seconds. The company also announced a $4 million seed round led by Eniac Ventures, with backing from tech figures like Scott Belsky, Tim Ferriss, and Nikita Bier.

Goodbye chatbots, hello multimodal learning

Most people today turn to ChatGPT when they want to understand something new. The problem is that back-and-forth prompting often feels like pulling teeth, while the rest of the web is engineered to steal your attention rather than teach you.

Oboe takes a completely different path. Instead of making you chat, it gives you nine distinct learning formats. Users can choose reading materials paired with visuals, interactive quizzes, gamified lessons, or audio formats.

For audio learners, Oboe offers a formal university-style lecture or a conversational two-host breakdown that feels very similar to Google NotebookLM's podcast feature.

Behind the curtain is a multi-agent system built from scratch. When you submit a prompt, multiple AI agents run in parallel: one outlines the curriculum, another fact-checks the base material, another drafts the podcast script, and another pulls real photographs from the web instead of generating synthetic AI imagery.

How pricing works

Oboe is live on desktop and mobile web, with native iOS and Android apps coming soon.

Anyone can browse and consume courses made by other users for free. Free accounts also get five course generations per month. Power users can pay $15 per month for 30 additional courses, or $40 per month for 100 courses.

Zicherman runs the five-person team full-time, while Mignano stays on as a partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners alongside his co-founder role.

Why it matters

For anyone trying to pick up a new topic on the fly, Oboe is worth testing immediately. Generating five free courses a month costs nothing, and the ability to consume what the community creates gives it instant utility. It fits people who want structured primers on history, tech, or daily skills without reading five scattered articles.

Strategically, we think Oboe nailed the UX problem of modern generative AI. Most people do not want to be prompt engineers; they just want clear, digestible media. By packaging LLM outputs into podcasts, real photo guides, and quizzes, Oboe turns an active search chore into passive, pleasant consumption.

That said, the model faces clear hurdles. The $15 to $40 monthly price tag is steep for casual curiosity. If the multi-agent fact-checking falls short and delivers surface-level Wikipedia summaries, retaining paying subscribers will be a tough battle once the novelty wears off.
