Alibaba just open-sourced Qwen3.8-27B under Apache 2.0
Alibaba just released the open weights for Qwen3.8-27B, a native multimodal dense model under the Apache 2.0 license. At 27B parameters, it outperforms Qwen3.7-Plus and features a 262K native context window extendable to 1M tokens. Open weights for the Max-level Qwen3.8-2.4T-A95B are also available on Hugging Face and ModelScope.

Qwen3.8-27B is Alibaba's newly open-weighted native multimodal dense model, shipped under the developer-friendly Apache 2.0 license.
What it can do
With just 27B parameters, it outperforms the previous Qwen3.7-Plus across the board while excelling in day-to-day coding and office workflows.
It handles long documents with ease, featuring a native 262K context window that can stretch up to 1M tokens using YaRN.
Alongside the 27B release, Alibaba also made weights available for its flagship Max-tier model, Qwen3.8-2.4T-A95B. Both models are up on Hugging Face and ModelScope right now, ready for local execution or building custom agents.
Why it matters
A 27B dense model sits right in the sweet spot for developers who want frontier-level capabilities without enterprise-scale infrastructure. Combined with an unrestricted Apache 2.0 license, you can drop it straight into commercial production. If you need a reliable local engine for coding copilots or document processing, it is definitely worth a spin today.
